Budget Provides $750,000 for
MBDA Portal
Washington, D.C. - President Bush's
budget includes an additional $750,000 for the Department of Commerce's
Minority Business Development Agency's (MBDA) new Minority Business Internet Portal.
The additional
funding for MBDA's Portal is designed to: (1) electronically identify, match and deliver financial and contracting opportunities
to minority-owned firms; (2) offer a wide array of information for and
about minority businesses; and (3) improve communication between the minority
business community and the public and private sectors.
U.S. Secretary of Commerce Donald L. Evans stated, "This increase to MBDA will benefit the minority business community and expand its technology capacity
to provide higher-quality services to domestic and global markets via the
Internet. The Minority Business Internet Portal will be MBDA's new means to
communicate vast amounts of information about minority-owned businesses to the public
and private sectors in a timely manner."
The MBDA is preparing to be the national leader in comprehensive digitally based business development assistance for the minority business community. MBDA has developed a number of electronic tools accessible throughout the country
via the Internet. The new Minority Business Internet Portal will parallel
the direction that the private and public sectors are using to
conduct business-to-business, business - to - government, and consumer sales over the Internet.
MBDA is the only Federal agency specifically established to foster minority business growth in the U.S. The agency provides management and technical assistance to minority entrepreneurs through its nationwide network of funded Minority
and Native American Business Development Centers, Minority Business
Opportunity Committees and Business Resource Centers. MBDA headquarters is in
Washington, D.C., where all activities are planned, developed coordinated and
evaluated.
